I am living in Grass Valley, CA. I work full time at a Title Insurance Company, and take classes at the local Community College. I hope to Transfer to CSUMB or to Arizona State this fall, and maybe major in global studies with a Spanish minor.
I can't beleive how quickly the time has flown by! It seems just yesterday that I left WV behind. Can't believe how out of contact I have been- I wish that I had kept in better touch and hope to reconnect with my friends from Upward Bound. They made a HUGE difference in my life, and I still miss them. I often wonder how they are doing, I just don't do a good job asking.
Good job Ben and Tiffany! Congrads! Glad to hear you are doing well.

I decided I needed a change in my life so I quit my job in charleston (didnt really like it anyway) and moved to northwest iowa (mmm corn) Started working for one of the local telephone companies up here. Was there for 4 months and quit cuz I couldnt stand my boss (seeing a pattern here I am). Now I am working as the IT Manager for a large ETO company. I just recently moved into a new house that I am looking into buying and making the kind of money I diserve to be making. Hope this update finds everyone well and happy. Anyway, i am in the navy now and have been for 2 plus years. i have just gotten out of my first command, the USS Grapple, and i got to help out with the Hurricane Katrina Relief for 36 days straight. But like i said i am done with the USS Grapple and am moving on the a new command called the Riverines. It is a new Special Warfare group and we will be deployed to Iraq in early 2007. Wish me luck! Until i am deployed to Iraq though i will be stationed in good ole Virginia Beach. And of course the most important news of the last couple years, i have gotten married and my one year anniversary is tomorrow, April 1st. Time certainly does go by so fast. Nevertheless, I just recently graduated from Berea College with a B.A. in both Speech Communication and Appalachian Studies and ironically I found employment other than Wal-Mart! It might not be in my field, but currently I am working for a supplemental health insurance agency in Berea, Kentucky as the office manager. Thus far I like it, but time only tells. In addition, I am really thinking of going back to school. For some strange reason I want to teach- go figure. Not quite sure yet though. Once again time will only tell. Keep in touch! |

| | Marshall | Anthropology | | Well, I've finally decided to leave my mark on here. Since this is the first time I've ever wrote anything I feel that I have some es'plainin' to do. So Colorado was amazing but unfortunately it was a wee bit pricey even with the scholarship. So here I be at good ol' Marshall University, where the horns never stop blowing and the fish in the Ohio River glow in the dark. From an academic stand point, I'm content and stand by my work and (ahem) effort. Being at Marshall has helped me to find my true purpose in life though, whitewater kayaking. I am an active member of the Marshall University Whitewater Club and regularly throw myself off of waterfalls throughout the state. When the water is too low to hit up the rivers, I teach kayaking classes here at the campus pool. It's a good time and I've helped quite a few people here in Huntington discover their souls through boating. As for experiences, they have been plentiful. Last summer I did a stint in Sweden, and yes, it was incredible. This summer, with any luck, I shall be roaming the old stompin' grounds better known as DnE this time as an RA for the summer program. But I guess we'll just have to see what happens. Stay tuned kids... this should be a very interesting summer. |

Instead, I married and have two beautiful little boys (3yr. old, and 9mnths). The 3yr old is autistic and sometimes it gets really tough trying to find things for him but Carol and her sister have been the biggest help. Once, we get everything under control with the kids I am going to take courses online for accounting and childcare. I hope everyone is doing great. Congrats to Ben and Tiffany. | | West Virginia Wesleyan College | Bachelor's in Business Administratio | Hello, Everybody! I was so excited when I saw DnE's Upward Bound website. It looks great and is good to see that the program is thriving.
As for me, I now live in Chevy Chase, MD. I have lived here for two years now. Currently, I work two jobs. My primary job is Supervisor of the Accounts Receivable department at a pension fund for retirees. I just recently got my promotion as supervior a few months ago and it is going great. My part time job is working at a gymnastics center. There I work in the office and teach a couple of 3-5 year old recreational classes. Other than work, I try to take in as much of DC as I can and enjoy living in the city because I have always wanted to live in a metropolitan area.
As for current UB participants, I would like to advise them to take advantage of the opportunities given to them. UB gives you the tools to get a jump start on your future. So during this time have fun, make memories and work hard.

I am getting everything taken care of slowly. I have been having a little trouble with my financial aid and stuff but I am getting everything straightened out. I have to go to a meeting tomorrow for Student Support Services and then I will have to meet with Mr. Nichols to interview and then HOPEFULLY I get in. I have a lot of free time in the afternoon. I have all morning classes so I have nothing to do in the afternoon until I can get my work study set up and get that rolling. Classes so far aren't that bad. I just though that I would drop in and say hi to everyone and tell everyone that I miss them. To my TVHS UBer's, Make the best of UB cause you will miss it, I PROMISE. To everyone else, good luck in all that you do. Well I am going to go walk now so you class of 2005 people hit me up sometime with an email.
