Daniel Channell – Daniel is a rising junior at Shepherd College majoring in Mass Communications.  At Shepherd College, Daniel is a team leader of the Cross Country Team. Daniel is an alumnus of Upward Bound and credits the program for his success in college.  He describes himself as a people person and enjoys interacting with everyone.

April Chisolm – April is a senior Elementary Education major at Davis & Elkins College.  While attending D&E, she serves as an Ambassador and is active in student government issues.  April is a returning Residential Coordinator to Upward Bound.  She described her experience last summer at Upward Bound as a rewarding experience that allowed her to grow personally.

Mikyu Choi – Mikyu is from Seoul, Korea.  She is currently enrolled as a senior at Davis & Elkins College majoring in Communications with a minor in Spanish.  While at D&E, Mikyu has been a Peer Leader, a member of the tennis team, and a Senator Scholar.  She thinks of herself as independent and determined.  Mikyu says that “attitude is the key” to everything.  She admires people that are smart but humble.

Cecelia Flippin - CeCe is a third year Residential Coordinator for Davis & Elkins College Upward Bound.  She is from Pendleton County and is currently a senior at West Virginia University majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering.  At WVU, she is a member of the West Virginia University Honors Program as well as the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.  CeCe is very active in 4-H and thinks of her time at UB as a great way to spend her summers.

Whitney Grove – Whitney graduated from Davis & Elkins College in May.   At D&E, she has been a member of the basketball and volleyball teams.  Whitney has been involved in many basketball and 4-H camps as an instructor and/or teen counselor.   Whitney loves the outdoors and says that the morning is the best time of day.

Susan Malfregeot – Susan attends West Virginia Wesleyan College where she is majoring in Psychology.  Susan is a member of the WVWC Women’s Tennis Team.  She also enjoys gardening, Tae-Bo, and general exercise.  She describes herself as creative, easy going, and upbeat.

Martin Moore – Martin is returning for a second year as a Resident Coordinator.  After two years at West Virginia Wesleyan College, he will be transferring to Fairmont State College to become a paramedic.  At Wesleyan, Martin participated in the Bonner Scholars Program (community service scholarship) and he finds volunteer work to be very rewarding.  Martin is an alumnus of Upward Bound.  Martin admits that UB has been vital in his success and remains actively involved year-round with the Program.

Emily Pennington– Emily is a native to Randolph County and has attended classes with Fairmont State College and West Virginia Wesleyan College.  She is currently enrolled at Davis & Elkins College, majoring in Business and Marketing.  Emily plays the flute, bassoon, and tenor saxophone. Emily thinks that her biggest strength is her willingness to help in every situation.

Brad Phillips – Brad is a pre-veterinarian major at West Virginia University.  He enjoys spending time at his fraternity, Alpha Gamma Rho.  Brad enjoys athletics and being outside.  He described his personality as very studious and self-disciplined.  He says that the summer at UB will give him a chance to utilize his knowledge of how to succeed at college.

Andrea Rumberg – Andrea is a senior majoring in Civil Engineering at West Virginia University.  Andrea is currently a member of the WVU Marching Band, WVU Honors Program, and a recipient of the WVU Presidential Scholarship.  Andrea describes herself as hard working, trustworthy, and a good friend to all.  Andrea described Upward Bound as a great way to help prepare students for college.

Matt Sponaugle – Matt is an alumnus of the Davis & Elkins College Upward Bound program.  He attends West Virginia Wesleyan College and is majoring in Computer Science.  Matt describes himself as having a good personality and a strong example for others.  He credits Upward Bound for helping prepare him for college.

Margie Summerfield – Margaret is a rising senior at West Virginia Wesleyan College and is an alumnus of Upward Bound.  Margaret thinks that the Upward Bound program gives students an academic advantage and exposure to many different activities.  She likes to be spontaneous and have fun doing everything.

Jeremy Troyer - Jeremy is an upcoming junior at Davis and Elkins College majoring in Music Education.  Jeremy instructs students on the trumpet.  He is currently learning to play the piano and guitar but refers to his voice as his best instrument.  He is a member of the only all male choir out of Charleston, WV.  Jeremy describes himself as a leader and someone who looks positively into the future.
